Live From Lincoln: Being At The Ohio State-Nebraska Game

Too bad we couldn't pull out the win
First of all I have to say it was great to see so many in Scarlet and Gray make the trip west! It would have even been greater had we pulled out the W. Saturday was the first time I had ever been inside Memorial Stadium after living in Nebraska for the last 5 years. Only for my Buckeyes would I do that!

The game started out great, seats were pretty good, nice enough people (except for the drunk guys a few rows back). I was not to optimistic about the Buckeye team I had watched against Michigan state, I did not know who was going to show up and who was not going to. I was surprised to see as the first half went on that it looked like we had practiced, spent time on film and had some emotion to begin the game.

The play calling in the first three quarters was brilliant, I wasn't sure that Jim Bollman hadn't pulled a Kevin McAllister and someone had to take his place. The Defense didn't have to do it alone and that was refreshing. Carlos Hyde had a great half and was getting a huge push from the O-line...amazing since Jared Crick is supposed to be the next coming of Suh for Nebraska.

At half time I was feeling pretty good at our chances but knew that Bo and Carl Pelini would have adjustments at the half and Ohio State probably wouldn't.

I don't like when Ohio State takes the ball first, we don't have momentum to build from the first half right out of the locker room, and the field goal (almost TD) before the half could have been a stepping stone. As the third quarter went on and I saw less and less of the Offense and more and more of the Defense, I knew we would probably come out on the short end of the stick. The moment Braxton Miller hit the turf, I knew the game was over. We were still ahead, but in the minds of those players, they were done....they were defeated.
I am sure Joe Bauserman is a capable QB. You are not on scholarship at The Ohio State University without being a capable QB. But he does not have a presence on the field. He is not a field general.

When he came into the game, instead of Guiton, I wanted to do something that I had (and still have) never done before....I wanted to leave before time ran out. I knew the game was over!

The Nebraska fans after the game were very nice, many commenting that if Braxton had stayed in, it would have been a different outcome. I think we could all agree on that!

Atmosphere - A - would have been an A+ had TBDBITL been there! Total let down for me- wanted to see Script Ohio!

Fans- B+ - Nice people, but not what I was expecting from the 'nicest fans in the country'.

Buckeyes- B- - Signs of brilliance, signs of things to come, but still not a complete game.
