Friday's Buckeye Bits

Good Friday morning! Another lovely early spring day here in Columbus. Fair warning, this weather has brought on the usual nasty cold, so my writing may be somewhat Nyquil-affected.

So the news that Fielding Yost is objecting to Wes Fesler's recruiting tactics should come as no shock to anyone.

Well, actually, Bret Bielema is the one that's not happy. "We at the Big Ten don’t want to be like the SEC," he says. He's seems a bit upset that Kyle Dodson flipped from Wisconsin.  Mark Dantonio is a bit upset, too, after Se'Von Pittman decided that Columbus is a nicer place to live than East Lansing. The coaches seem to be concerned that the "gentlemen's agreements" that had been informally in place between Big Ten coaches are being violated.

Well, too bad. Until the letter is signed and faxed (and, seriously, WHO uses faxes anymore?), everyone is fair game. And, honestly, why doesn't Bert want to be a bit more SEC-like? It's not like we are trying to train these young men to grow into mature, morally-grounded adults...

Will he wear a vest with a Zip(per)? Or a pouch? Jim Tressel sold his house the other day, and for good reason--he's moving north. He's headed back to the University of Akron to be the "Vice President of Strategic Engagement." In other words, he'll have his hand out. Due to the show-cause penalty he's been saddled with, he won't have anything to do with the athletic department. Strange that the best football coach in Akron won't spend any time on the sidelines next fall.

Well, time for our usual Friday TV sports preview. The men's basketball team heads to the tropical oasis of Madison for a 2pm showdown on Saturday. Please, Wisconsin fans, no spitting. They are supposed to be teaching you to be mature, morally-grounded adults.  The Puckeyes host the Spartans for a pair Friday and Saturday. Time to turn it around. The women's basketball team is smarting from a loss to Minnesota, and will host the Badgers on Monday night. Oh, and there is some sort of exhibition football game going on in the middle of "12 Hours of America's Most Expensive Commercials" and a Madonna concert on Sunday.
