We want to wish a belated Happy Birthday to the greatest Ohio State coach to ever live, Wayne Woodrow Hayes. Hayes accumulated a record of 205 victories, sixty-eight losses, and ten ties. His teams won three national championships (1954, 1957, 1968) and thirteen Big Ten Conference championships. Because of this impressive coaching record, Hayes received National Coach of the Year honors on two separate occasions. He was also one of the first college football coaches to recruit African-American players. The coach was legendary on all accounts, and I simply cannot believe we forgot his birthday. Woody Hayes was always said to have a big heart, and you could see it when he coached during games. He always went in and had his players play the game as hard as they could. It may just be a conicidence that he was born on Valentine's Day, but most people thought it was God's intent to do that. So again, Happy Birthday to him, on behalf of the staff of ITS.

 

Inside The Shoe blog update

What with some of the winter olympics going on today, as well as the slam dunk contest (Yes, I will be watching), it may sound crazy, but I'm taking a day off. I've worked for about 2 months straight on this blog, setting up some writers, (Yogi, Chris), getting a shop up, spreading out the word about our blog, and blogging itself. Don't get the wrong idea, I'm not leaving, I just have to take a break for just today. I know, you can't believe that a blog owner has a life besides the blog itself, crazy, right? Well, I have to go support my sister at her sporting event, (ugh), but before that I get some time with my Dad at BW3's. Gotta love it. So, today, I leave in the hands of Yogi and Chris, and if they would like a break as well, (Yogi is working on his new house I'm sure) and Chris (Just getting done with a huge company project for his job), they are welcome to. With that being said, we have some new items up in the store, so go check that out. Other than that, should be a calm day, but If you need your daily blogging, I know for a fact that tBBC, and 11W do a fantastic job of keeping of a thread, or diffrent subjects to post. So, have at it, and enjoy your saturday.

Today, we go off Ohio State for a little bit to honor the 13 game winning streak the Cleveland Cavaliers are on. Last night they extended it to 13, aganist Yogi's Orlando Magic team. To honor that, the POW will be Mr. James.

Yes - the season is over

So Buckeye football fans - its time to come to grips with reality. The season is over and there are many many days left before Marshall comes to town. Withdrawal symptoms anyone....Don't worry - here are some moments that Buckeye fans will reminisce about the 2009 season:

 1) Navy game: Brian Rolle's interception of course and return for 2 points to seal the game. Most of us were on oxygen when Navy mounted that spirited comeback. Rolle announced his arrival on the linebacker scene for the Buckeyes with that play.

 2) USC game: Pryor's interception on the first drive - it became obvious in a flash to Buckeye fans that Pryor's development as a QB had a long way to go. Defensive line play: OSU's depth on the defensive line where they could rotate 9 guys in and out became apparent.

 3) Toledo game: Only reminiscent aspect of the game was that the Buckeyes played in the Brown's stadium. Only Buckeye game that was not picked up by any channel, not even the BTN.

 4) Illinois game: a.k.a. The Monsoon Bowl. The skies opened up for this one. Pryor had 2 pass attempts in the entire first half. Run Baby Run said coach Tressel. Memorable aspect of the game : Back-to-back shutouts by the Silver Bullets.

 5) Indiana game: First road game for the Bucks. Nothing gr8 to remember really. Except maybe the one gr8 TD grab by Duron Carter on a rather poor throw by Pryor to announce his arrival on the big stage.

 6) Wisconsin game: Cameron Heyward's sack of QB Tolzein on the Badger's first snap on offense. All week, talk of the 'dominating' Wisconsin offensive line was rampant. Heyward let his play do the talking. Fittingly, the Silver Bullets dominated in the game, even scoring twice on pick-sixes and allowing just 2 FGs all day.

 7) Purdue game: Most of us are trying to wipe out memories of this game. So the less said the better. Helps in the healing process.

 8) Minnesota game: Pryor got a feeling for what it means to be a QB at OSU : The game will be remembered for the fact that Lebron James, Shaq ONeal and Troy Smith all talked to Pryor to offer advise and words of encouragement after the criticism he took following the Purdue game. The zone read was employed by coach Tressel here a lot more to utilise Pryors rushing skills.

 9) New Mexico state game: Loss of Petrey to a cheap shot from a Aggie player, and Evil Tressel shows up with the "BuckWild" sending Posey to throw a left handed TD to Sanz.

 10) Penn St. game: Pryor shows some improvement, while defense continues to dominate on a national stage level.

11) Iowa game: Will be rembered for the running game. Pryor didn't throw more than 10 times, and Barclay, the back up, hits the game winner in overtime to send tOSU to the Rose Bowl.

12) TTUN game: Ohio State came out in new combat uni's and rolled on the day in which Tate Forcier, the silly goose, had 5 turnovers.

13) Oregon game: Most people will remember the game for Terrelle Pryor finally showing what he promised he could be, turning into a Vince Young performance, but most Buckeye Bloggers will remember this, always. Oh, and we can't forget that either.

The Buckeyes wish you Happy New Year

Happy New Year from the staff at Inside The Shoe. 2009 will be remebered by us for the starting of this blog, and for a great season by our Buckeyes. As we will look back at this year, the Buckeyes will either provide great memories, (a win aganist Oregon) or anticipation for next, (another Buckeye loss). Either way, we will be here, and be fans throughout it all! Enjoy 2010, and keep it here.

Speed is Key for Defense.

In my eyes, speed is a factor that is a luxury to have. Speed can define your team, or kill it. Oregon has speed, in both their running backs and our course, their QB Jerimeiah Masoli. Masoli is a reason Oregon fans are sort of glad that they didn´t land Terrelle Pryor. I mean, he can throw way better then Pryor can, by far. The dude can run, and has a the nastiest fake handoff in the book. That is where Jim Tressel and Buckeye nation hopes the defensive line can come in.

Jim Tressel has used the big brain and has decided to use 3rd string quarterback Kenny Guiton as their "Masoli". If you look at the game aganist Texas last year, Colt Mccoy led an offense, not similar to Oregon´s, but ran a hurry up offense. Thad Gibson was arguably Ohio State´s main pass rush threat, and yet he lined up offsides due to the fatigue of the hurry up twice. If Ohio State´s defense can keep up with the speed, they can most certainly have a huge impact. I can argue that this is one of, if not the best, defensive line in the country. They tend to be at their best aganist the "big" teams (See USC, Penn St). They do have a tendancy to slack a little bit, (Purdue, Navy) but that is overcomable.

The secondary is what worries me the most. Although Oregon lost Jamere Holland, they still have some pretty decent deep threats. This secondary is home to some corners that are young, Torrence, under acheiving, Chekwa, and just plain bad, Russell. Their is one star that will have to have a huge game, and I expect him to. That man is Kurt Coleman. Kurt Coleman looks to make a lasting impression by leading the Buckeyes to their first bowl victory since 2005. Ouch. He will also most likely want to make a good showing for the NFL scouts bound to be there. As Yogi mentioned, our corners like to give a little space to the receivers. NOT ALLOWED. Oregon likes throwing the quick little hitches and slants. Of course, look out for the bubble screen to the James.

Yogi says Hi

Buckeyes all over the world - Greetings from Orlando Florida. Tis the season ... for the CFB postseason and that can mean just one thing - big BCS game for the Buckeyes once again. But the conference in particular and CFB in general has some kewl games before that so I'll ramble on for all ye CFB junkies like me prior to the Bucks vs Ducks showdown in Pasadena. So that will mean some smack talk on the TTUN that will be decorating Christmas trees in the hope that Santa gets them to a bowl game next year. Or some venting on how the arrogant Irish will once again scuttle ideas of the Big 10 getting an extra team to play a title game. Or some more BCS bashing and potential solutions for playoffs. Or how Tresselball will lead us again to BCS glory (will it .. wont it.. dont know where I am on that today). There is seldom any middle ground with me so get ur blood pressure meters ready ... you may need it after reading my posts. The purpose after all is to 'Blog' not 'write the truth' or 'analyse the facts' (I leave that to talking heads on ESPN etc.) and not pretend that any of us are on a pedestal. As for other sports that get me going, I am a Blue Jackets and Cincinnati Reds and Bengals fan of course. But with my stay in Europe I am also a big Liverpool fan (yeah - I know they suck this year). And living in Orlando I have tried to support local sports like the orlando Magic and the UCF Knights. For those that are still interested, check out my profile (why? .. I dont know??) for more random dough on me. Dinner time and then get ready for buckeye hoops ... lets see how Hill and Lighty manage the Vikings full court pressure. GO BUCKS!
