Killa Cam headin to the Mansion, and other odds-n-ends

I don't think this comes as a surprise to most people, but Cameron Heyward (the QB killer) has been selected to the Playboy Pre-season All American Team. I think we can all agree that this is about as prestigious of an award as the Heisman because well, you get to see more naked women. Congratulations to Cam. A couple pieces of advice, start taking penicillin now just to be proactive and what happens in the grotto stays in the grotto, unless you grant Inside The Shoe an exclusive or you post the crap out of twitpic during the event.

It seems that a lot of people are down on Chimdi Chekwa for some reason, and I just don't get it. "Chekwa sucks" is all over the message boards and whole-heartedly disagree. This is shades of "Anderson Russell sucks" after he got burned for the game winning TD against Texas in the 2009 Fiesta Bowl. Everyone makes bad plays, and they're magnified by being on a national powerhouse team and on national TV numerous times a year. While I can;t find or remember any singular instance of Chekwa getting absolutely burned for 6, I vaguely remember a few pass interference calls. I think it's conventional wisdom that you'd rather take those than give up the touchdown. Some are pointing to the spring game as an indicator of sucktitude, again I disagree. The spring game has never been an accurate barometer of a player's skills or how they will contribute in the upcoming season.
With the piece-milled rosters and having not played a game since January 1st, it would be hard to play at mid-season levels. If you want to use the spring game as a measuring stick, then Kenny Guitton is our starting QB. Absurd. Next thing you're gonna tell me is that you think Devon Lyons is ready for his 5th breakout season.

It turns out Coach Tressel can recruit. Who knew??? After a limited number of open scholarships for last year's class, the sky had appeared to start falling and poo was ready to hit the fan. With that said, the 2011 early commit list is staggeringly good. Step back from that ledge my friends, everything's going to be alright. The sky is not falling.

Everyone is expanding, except for the mid-majors, they're just getting screwed. Good luck making it to the BCS title game, Boise State(even though fanhouse.com has them as preseason number 1(gag)) and Utah. With the almost certain emergence of 16 team uber-conferences you're gonna be left out to dry. I am however staring to contradict my own logic on the Texas as the ultimate prize for the big ten, at least the one targeted by Jim Delaney. The more I think of it, and the more I hear, I think Texas is destined to either joined the Pac10 or stay in the Big 12, regardless if/when Nebraska and Missouri leave for the big 10. I'm thinking that all this talk is a move to make Notre Dame join the Big 10 along with a couple other teams. The creation of the mega-conference will undoubtedly mark an end to Notre Dame's back door deal where a 9 win season equals a BCS birth. Maybe that will be enough reason for them to join the Big 10, as much as I wish they wouldn't. I guess the point is that there are too many possibilities and catches to make an accurate prediction and this point. All I know is that change is-a-comin.
