Dawgs lead the Aggies 14-7 : Special teams the story for Georgia

Its Independence Bowl time folks (or Weed whacker bowl as it once was referred to!!) here in Shreveport La. where the Georgia Bulldawgs of the SEC and the Texas A&M Aggies were expected to give us an offensive treat. But the layoff showed clearly on both offenses as they looked tardy and out-of-sync.

Despite a consistent pass rush from the Dawgs, Jerrod Johnson of the Aggies has made some plays with his feet and late in the second quarter got it going with the passing game. They scored on a pass where Johnson scrambled after the pocket collapsed and found a WR open in the endzone. And Boykin of the Dawgs must have tried on some of those multivitamins from the sponsors Advocare cos on the ensuing kickoff he ran all the way to the endzone to put Georgia on board. Their defense recorded a 2-and-out and on the ensuing punt, the Dawgs got a block and recovered the ball inside the Aggies 2 from where they punched it in for the go ahead score. So 2 teams that had gone scoreless for 20+ minutes put 21 points collectively on the board in less than 2 min.

On the subsequent possession, the Aggies moved the ball effectively but poor clock management probably cost them 3 points.

So the Aggies have moved the ball on Georgia courtesy their fine QB J Johnson and have raked up 259 yards of offense. Goergia has only 99 yards of offense in contrast. If special teams for the Aggies can hold up (they had a blocked FG attempt in the half too), then they can come back to win this one. Joe Cox has shown the vulnerability short QB's have in having their passes batted down by big linemen.

I wonder where the SEC homers are at this point who luv to tout that 'SEC speed' mantra. We didnt see it last night with Kentucky and boy, we sure aren't seeing it with the Dawgs.

  1. looks like Georgia got lucky...darn. SEC lovers galore..all luck, but they will say it's skill, and of course, speed.
