After we talked about the travails of that storied program, the SMU Mustangs and their redemption against Nevada, it was time for the Pitt Panthers to do the same. Here was another storied program that gave us Tony Dorsett, Dan Marino, Larry Fitzgerald etc that had not won 10 games since forever. The last time they were relevant in the national scene, ironically, it was the Buckeyes that beat em in the Fiesta Bowl.
And after close losses in the Backyard brawl and against Cinci, the Pitt Panthers redeemed their season today with a close and hard fought win over the North Carolina Tarheels - 19-17 was the final score. The game also marked a sensational debut season for unheralded tailback, Dion Lewis who finished with over 1500 rushing yards as a true freshman. Congratulations Dion.
