The politically correct thing to say on this day is how gr8 Bowden is, how he invented CFB along with sliced bread etc. etc. but I cant get myself to believing all that and presenting you with hype.
Yes - Bobby Bowden built the Noles program from scratch and put up staggering numbers. And for that we give him due credit. He gave people the formula for building a new program in a sport where legacy is so important - go and play the Ohio States, the Washingtons, the USCs, the Alabamas, the Texas on their home field even if they do not want to come play in your field. And beat them. Bobby did that. Anyone, anywhere - to gain respect. Boise State - please take notice. Instead of constantly whining, do what Bobby did. He played instead of lobbying early on.
Will his legacy be tarnished by the academic cheating scandal? How will he be viewed for his stubborn refusal to step down when he could not deliver success on the field? Only time will tell.
