For the many doubters that OSU may have had over the last 20 or so games, they have pretty much shut their mouth by now. Ohio State is now 21-0, (8-0 Big Ten) and the only remaining unbeaten team in the country. Kansas fell to Texas, and San Diego State got outplayed by 1 man of the BYU squad (who looks very dangerous thus far).
William Buford had 19 points, Jared Sullinger added 17 and the top-ranked Buckeyes played almost flawlessly in rolling past No. 12 Purdue 87-64 on Tuesday night.
This time it wasn't just the effort of 1 or two guys, no, Tuesday night was all about teamwork as Jon Diebler had 13 points and a career-high eight rebounds, Deshaun Thomas added 13 points, David Lighty scored 10 points and Aaron Craft had 11 points and six assists for Ohio State, which ran its record to 62-4 all-time when atop the polls.
My Thoughts:
- When Jared Sullinger made that 3, not only did he get the crowd going, he got the nation going. This may just be the absolute best player in the country right now.
- The Buckeyes shot better from the field (55.2 percent) than they did the free throw line (54.5). Not the usual set of numbers for them.
- As far as RPI goes, this win helps right now, but this might soon turn ugly: The Boilermakers have lost three of their last five games after starting the season 15-1.
- Ohio State faces a pesky Northwestern team next. There aren't any easy games for awhile, so this will be a true test for the Buckeyes once more.
