Thanks to the Columbus Dispatch, we have some more information on the Buckeye's spring ball.
First off, the injury news: Tyler Moeller, and C.J. Barnett are not practicing due to the recent surgeries that they have faced. Corey Brown, the CB (not WR), is also on the sideline at practice. While Moeller and Barnett are out, they most likely will be put back into the 1 team for practices as soon as they are 100% healthy. Until then, it appears that Orihan Johnson and Zach Domicone will hold down that spots at safety.
Now, on to the "depth chart" from what we've seen:
Quarterback: Joe Bauserman seems to have the hold on this particular position, but Kenny Guiton is getting some time on the 1 squad as well. While Buckeye fans may expect to see Braxton Miller at the head, so far it appears it's Bauserman's job to lose. I also think with Guiton getting those snaps, that we'll see some spread-style packages with him in there. We'll have more on this later this week.
Running Back: Boom Herron is still getting most of the snaps here, while Boren has a complete lock on the fullback spot. With all of the running backs in store including Berry, Hyde, Smith, Hall, etc. It's a really big surprise to see that none of them are getting more snaps than the others. Fickell and Tressel are going to have to decide sooner or later who will take Boom's spot. We'll have more on this later also.
Wide Receiver: Not counting Posey, Philly Brown (who showed some real upside last year) seems to be the front runner here. Chris Fields seemed to be the number 3 receiving option which would mean we would see a Brown-Fields combination out on the field for the first 5 games. Ty Williams also got some snaps, so we could see him getting in maybe towards the red zone, as he is one of the tallest receivers in our roster.
Offensive Line: (left to right): Mike Adams, Jack Mewhort, Michael Brewster, Corey Linsley, J.B. Shugarts. Not too many things here that are surprising. People seem high on Marcus Hall, and he was at a guard position running with the second team.
Defense:
Defensive Line: "Nathan Williams, John Simon, Jonathan Hankins and Adam Bellamy. I saw Garrett Goebel in quite a bit, as well, usually replacing Hankins. In an obvious passing down, J.T. Moore was in as a rush end."
Linebacker: Looks like Sabino and Sweat will be the locks for the linebacker spot for the 2011 season. The third seems to belong to Storm Klein, except when the nickel formation came in.
Cornerback: Travis Howard and Dominic Clarke have the position as of right now, and Howard reportedly made some really nice plays in practice.
"Formation-wise,it seemed to be a day to work mostly on the pass game. QBs were in the shotgun I'd say 90 percent of the time, with the usual array of different looks. I think you should expect to see a TE lined up as a slot receiver a fair amount, particularly while Posey sits out and the WRs are so raw. They also have enough RBs that you might see a fair amount of "pro set" looks, with two RBs flanking a QB in the shotgun."
