Urban Meyer Ramblings

Meyer has some thinking to do
Back in May, when Jim Tressel left Ohio State, rumblings shook throughout Buckeye Nation as to who would follow in the Vest's place as the new head coach. Urban Meyer was a big favorite among the fans, and rumors have been swirling ever since. Things have picked up recently due to Luke Fickell coaching the Buckeyes with a 6-3 record, and to add to the drama, Penn State is under fire.

Joe Paterno may be involved, which could lead to him stepping down. Considering there were rumors about Meyer to Penn State beforehand, Nittany Lions everywhere are excited about the possibility of having a new head coach. Especially with one of the stature that Urban Meyer has with college football. Urban has now "bought" houses in Upper Arlington and all across the states of Ohio and Pennsylvania. Now, I have it on some good sources that Urban Meyer could be considered a lock to Ohio State. While many are saying the same thing about Penn State, there are rumblings about OSU boosters talking about the hire, and not only talking with other boosters, but OSU officials as well.

An obvious question people may have is about Luke Fickell. He hasn't done fantastic, but he did upset Illinois and Wisconsin, and still has a shot to win out and make it into the B1G CCG. As I've heard it, it doesn't seem to matter at this point. It sounds like Urban Meyer wants the job, and OSU officials want him to have the job, so it's pretty much a lock. As far as Penn State goes, I don't see it being too big of a factor. Everyone knows by this point that Urban is from Ohio (Toledo) and coached at Ohio State, as an assistant. It's said often times that coaching Ohio State has been his dream job. I could see somehow Urban using the Penn State job to wheedle some extra favors, or some more money, but if I'm Ohio State I'm willing to pay through the nose to get this guy.

The only thing left standing between Urban Meyer and Ohio State tying the knot, is the father of the bride. In this case, that's the NCAA. After the Tat Five, came more suspensions, and after that came more suspensions during the season. That led an extension on DeVier Posey's suspension, in which he comes back for the Penn State game. If OSU can stay out of trouble with the NCAA there, it's possible to wrap up with Urban. If the verdict on Ohio State is too much, Buckeye fans can most likely kiss the chances of nabbing Meyer goodbye.
