My Thoughts On Urban Meyer, Michigan, And The BCS/SEC

Here we go again
Before we get into the possible title game rematch between LSU and Alabama (Yawn) I wanted to give some quick hitters on the Ohio St/Michigan game from last weekend.

1) Braxton Miller still has a long way to go with that throwing motion. I counted at least four separate throws that could’ve gone for touchdowns or at the very least big gainers that definitely would’ve switched the momentum. The guy has unimaginable talent in those legs but you have to be the complete package when playing big boy football. I think he has the skill in that right arm of his but it’s yet to be coaxed out by the coaching staff. Luckily there is a new sheriff in town who knows how to handle this type of dual threat quarterback.

2) The defense this year is the worst I have seen at Ohio St. in some time. I know that they are young and another year of experience will do wonders next season but I didn’t expect the difficulty stopping the run. In years past it didn’t matter that OSU had a sub-par offense because all they needed to do was score 14-21 to win. Usually the defense would add another 7-14 and that was the ballgame.

OSU was constantly ranked in the top 10 and the offense just had to do enough to post a W on Saturdays. The turmoil surrounding the program didn’t help but there were way too many big 3rd downs given up on Saturday. If they could’ve stopped Denard on half of those runs I think the outcome is way different.

3) The Urban Meyer fiasco completely overshadowed the game after the whistle finally blew on Saturday. The next two days, all anybody could talk about was the new hire. That must have driven those mouth breathers from up north MAD. They finally get over on us after 7 years and the opposing fan base couldn’t have cared less. I shouldn’t say we didn’t care but the vast majority of our attention was focused on the media frenzy happening in Columbus.

All my Michigan friends could do was try and tell me how “bad” this hire was.  Are you kidding me guys? Our new coach is a home run and it drives you nuts that nobody wanted to talk about the game. A game that you almost lost to a 6-5 team I might add. Ah, the rivalry is back folks. It took a loss by the bucks and a coaching whirlwind to get it back but I think the next five years are going to be fun. If you want to read more on the game there are countless talented writers with way better insight on the contest that I can give you. I spent the day sulking inside of a bottle and haven’t watched the replay yet so let’s move on shall we?

The national title game looks to be set before we have even hit the conference championship games. Wow. That’s all I can spit out. The BCS is such a farce at this point I don’t know how anyone with half a brain can defend it. How on earth can the last weekend of college football along with the championship games not count towards the title game? I will wait while BCS nerd tries to crunch the numbers and tell me the whole system is working just fine.

Still waiting…. I guess he had some Dungeons and Dragons to attend to in his mom’s basement so we may be waiting awhile on that question.

Let me answer it for you. It sucks. It is the worst system on the planet deciding one of the most popular sports in this great country. Every other major sport decides things on the field but we are forced to let a bunch of poindexters and computer algorithms decide the fate of our favorite college sport. It didn’t affect Ohio St. this year but I still feel the pain of fans across the nation. So we are left with LSU-Alabama once again. The first meeting was so enthralling I can hardly wait for the rematch. Another 9-6 barn burner is sure to light up the Nielson Ratings.

Alabama had it's chance a month ago and could not get it done. If you lose and the conference you’re in sports the undefeated team that beat you, that’s it. Bama should be out of luck. Nobody outside of god’s country wants to sit through that game again. Give somebody else from a different part of the country the chance to hoist that crystal football. If you can’t win your conference there is no way in hell that team should be invited to the BCS title game. Simple as that.

Unfortunately it makes too much sense for the idiots at the BCS to listen.

I understand that the SEC is the best conference in the nation and has been for the past five years. I don’t think it is leaps and bounds over the rest of the country this season however. There are other teams out there that would pose a threat to LSU (assuming they win to get in). The vast majority of fans want this system changed and the NCAA continues to give a big middle finger to the fans that made it what it is today. Stuff just doesn’t make sense to me.

I leave you with some of my favorite quotes posted on the message boards in defense of Ohio St. Usually after a loss I am MIA from the Internet but I had to get down and dirty with those Michigan fans today.

(Ed. Note): This next section is to be taken lightly. As Brady says below, be cautious when reading.

This is a family site so earmuffs and blindfolds for the kiddies on a couple of these. Enjoy!

“This was Michigan's year to get over on us and they accomplished their goal. Just recognize it wasn't over a full-strength OSU team. Freshman quarterback, ultra young defense, worthless offensive coordinator, looming NCAA sanctions, Urban Meyer rumors and an over-his-head coach all played factors in this game and we still almost came out on top. But a win is a win. The record books won't show anything but a check in the left column a decade from now.”

“We had plenty of chances to win and Braxton couldn't hit the fucking broad side of a barn. I think Posey is still running wild on that lame ass secondary.” “On a side note, what is the deal with Hokester not saying "Ohio State"? I just listened to him huff/puff/sweat through an interview with Cowherd and he literally stumbled over himself 3 times trying not to say the word "state". Dude, it's not that clever. If you’re going to try and emulate Woody just don't say the word "Ohio" at all. It just sounds ridiculous now."

“Iceman, this notion that I should hate Urban Meyer now because he worked over a banquet circuit fattened Troy Smith, conservative Tressel and over-matched defense 5 years ago is laughable. Sure I can't stand to drink Gatorade to this day because of it but that's neither here nor there. I hated Braylon with a passion until he was drafted in Cleveland. I called McCoy Ol' doe eyes for 4 years until he donned the Orange and Brown. I even liked Kellen Winslow until he was traded. Things change!

The bottom line is when the Michigan job became available; you had to opt for your 2nd or third choice in Hoke. He is some fat guy that went .500 at SDSU and Ball State. Yes, Ball State. When the OSU job opens we get a 2 time National champion that tore through the SEC for 5 years. That should tell you all you need to know. Enjoy your year in "the sun". It won't last long.”
