The third Boren to come to OSU

Our coverage of the recruiting front continue with another interview.

This time Jacoby Boren, a 3-star offensive guard, answers our questions. Boren is the youngest of the Boren brothers, with former Ohio State offensive lineman Justin Boren and current OSU fullback Zach Boren.

Jacoby committed to Ohio State well before Jim Tressel was forced to resign (December 4th to be exact), but has stayed true to his commitment to the Buckeyes. Now with a class that is depleted in offensive line recruits, Urban Meyer has made it a priority to try and land top offensive linemen across the country. Keeping Boren is just as important, and Meyer proved it by calling Boren up recently.

We talked with Jacoby on Wednesday night to get his thoughts and feelings on Ohio State and his recruitment overall.


When you learned of the hiring of Urban Meyer, what was your reaction?

I was really excited to have the opportunity to play for him, and keeping my commitment to Ohio State.

What schools did you hold offers from before committing to Ohio State?

Ohio State was actually my first offer, and then I committed a month later during my junior year. Soon after that, everyone basically stopped trying to recruit me, because I was 100% a Buckeye.

Has Ohio State contacted you since the hiring of Meyer?

Yes, I talk to them every week and had my official visit two weeks ago. It went very well, and I enjoyed it a lot.

You had an older brother play for Ohio State - Justin. What's it like to try and continue Justin's "legacy" as an O-Lineman?

It's nothing new, I have been their "little brother" my whole life. I just try and do things that are me, I don't focus on being like them. I want to make my own mark.

What do you think of all the other recruits gaining interest and committing to Ohio State? Are you excited about playing with this class?

I think it's great, with all of the talent we have coming in, it will help make us all better players by going against each other in practice. I'm really looking forward to playing with all of the guys and trying to win games with them.

What are your goals for next season for yourself?

My goal is to become the best player I can be, hopefully earn some playing time as a freshman so I can help the team win games.

Are you excited about playing with your other older brother Zach?

Yes, I'm very excited. I had the opportunity to play with him my freshman year of high school and we had a lot of fun playing together. I look forward to doing that at Ohio State now.

What are some of the things that people may not know about you?

I'm pretty good with heavy machinery, driving boats, and I'm an above average student.
