| It's time again.. |
With all that being said, it's time to get started with our Monday Buckeye Bits!
Joe Paterno Leaves A Legend. As you may know already, legendary and former Penn State coach Joe Paterno passed away on Saturday. He was 85, and died due to a battle with lung cancer. A great coach, his final season of coaching was cut short when he was fired for the recent situation at Penn State. Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer commented on JoePa's death, saying "I was a coach that really admired him and followed him," Meyer said. "Any chance I had to visit with him, I'd wear him out with questions. I was always trying to learn from him.". This is not only a great loss for the Penn State community, but for College football itself. We wish the best for the Paterno family in their time of need.
Basketball Buckeyes Continue Domination. William Buford was the go-to man against the Nebraska Cornhuskers, who were fresh off of a huge upset against Indiana, as the Buckeyes rolled over the Cornhuskers 79-45, in a game that wasn't close at any point. Jared Sullinger chipped in 14 points (4/8 FG), five boards and three steals while Deshaun Thomas added 14 points and six rips. The win improves OSU to 17-3 overall and moves them into a three way tie for 1st in conference play with a 5-2 mark. Next up for the Buckeyes, a home game against Penn State.
There Are Other Sports Too, You Know. The main programs for Ohio State are Football and Basketball, always has been and always will be, but that doesn't mean we aren't damn good in those departments either. In fact, last Friday, the Wrestling team took on Iowa, a team they hadn't beaten since 1966. Ohio State is ranked 7th as a wrestling team, while the Hawkeyes were #2. This also snapped a 39-game win streak over the Big Ten for Iowa, so it was a good day to be a wrestling fan.
Jamal Marcus Might Be Next. The recruiting game continues, as 2012 4-star LB Jamal Marcus might be on his way to Ohio State very, very soon. He took an official visit to the Buckeyes over the weekend, and rumors have been floating around that Marcus may announce his intentions to go to Ohio State. His mom would prefer him to stay somewhere in Carolina, but Meyer just might have his way at the end of this race. Stay tuned.
