This time around, it's THE team, and it might hurt a little worse, considering that our Buckeyes now have a 2-game losing streak against teams from Michigan. Hard to believe. Let's see if today's Bits can ease some of the pain away.
It Might Not Be Our Basement, But It's A Basement. While we're nowhere near super-size buckeye blog Eleven Warriors level, we all started our blogs with the same ideas: To share our thoughts and opinions on everything about our favorite scarlet and gray-clad team. That being said, to give you guys the latest and greatest news on OSU, it takes a lot of effort and time.
Sometimes that time is hard to come by when you're working or are in school. 11W is doing the best they can to try and bring Buckeye Nation a beat writer for their site so they can bring even more great coverage, and I suggest you head on over and do the right thing: Make a donation to their hard working site. If ten reasons aren't enough, here's the 11th: They're the best.
Meyer Laying Down The Law. Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer sat down with the Columbus Dispatch last week, and had some very interesting things to say on the state of the Buckeyes. When the conversation headed towards the recent moaning and groaning from Bret Bielema about recruiting, Meyer said some insightful things that can only make the B1G better:
"I heard a comment about, “We don’t want to be a certain conference (SEC).” You don’t?"
If you're like me, you may be wondering how that all shook out behind the scenes. Fortunately, it looks like Delany has Meyer's back on this subject:
"I can tell you it’s all good now. We’re on the same page. Everybody is very respectful. The way it ended was fantastic, and I give a lot of credit to our head guy. Jim Delany, the commissioner of the Big Ten Conference, is outstanding. I didn’t know him before, but I have a lot of respect for our administration in the Big Ten."
Could Water Skiing Be Coming To Columbus? Rumors have been swirling ever since Ohio State defensive backs coach Bill Sheridan left Ohio State for Tampa Bay that the Buckeyes may already have a #1 target in mind: Ron Zook. Zook had just been fired at Illinois after a 7-year tenure as the head coach, and currently is unemployed.
Ron Zook is actually an interesting candidate for the spot, simply because he's a very good recruiter (something that Urban is all about) and he's actually from London, Ohio. Not to mention he was one of the many famous assistant coaches at Ohio State early in his career (1988-1990). He also played at Miami (OH) from 1973-1975 as a defensive back. I think it would be a fantastic hire, as Zook seems to be a perfect assistant coach: Can recruit well, knows the position, and has experience.
Different Views, Same Frustrating Story. As we mentioned above, it's been a rough couple of weeks for the Ohio State basketball team. 1-2 the past three games, although those two losses came against solid opponents. Nate, from Our Honor Defend truly misses 3-point king Jon Diebler, but also realizes that this team doesn't have the shooting prowess as before. He also mentions the scary notion that is starting to form on it's own: This Buckeye team is selfish.
Another view point from Saturday's game was from Monty at Buckeye House Call. He takes a look at a lot of the questions rebounding off of Buckeye Nations walls, but also believes that Thad Matta is the right man for the job, and will get this team prepared for the March Madness tournament, no matter what it takes. Personally, I think Matta is one of the great college basketball coaches, it just seems that we can't push hard enough on the gas pedal when it matters most. To echo off of Nate's article, where is the team that crushed the life out of Duke? They need to come back soon, because we need them in the next month.
