From Fired To Hired: Some Thoughts On Jim Tressel To The Colts

Before I get started with today’s rant, let me take my foot out of my mouth and eat some crow. In last week’s article, I un-famously stated that Jim Tressel would never take a job in the NFL and would probably be prowling the sidelines for another college team in the near future. I really just thought he was a college gut for life and was probably just sitting out the year to gauge possible openings throughout the NCAA. Imagine my surprise when just a few short days later our former coach signed on to be the “replay consultant” for the Indianapolis Colts.

First of all, what does the title of “replay consultant” entail? It sounds like a pretty cushy job to me. Do you just watch replays and help determine if you throw a challenge flag during the game? Are there any other duties in the day-to-day operation of an NFL franchise? Is there ANY way a 30 year old BGSU graduate working in a mediocre financial job can apply? Let me know if there is and my resume will be in the mail post-haste.

The Saints Go Marching In

Tracy Porter delivers the final blow, stepping up and picking off Peyton Manning's pass for a touchdown. The Saints won due to their phenomonal offense and a couple of great defensive stops that were helped by Malcolm Jenkins, a couple of break ups, 1 tackle, and almost got a INT. Will Smith provided some knock downs but no sacks. The Saints got it done on an onside kick, a two point conversion, AND a couple of 4th downs that were converted. Bourbon Street is partying hard. As they should. This is their team, who now has won 1 Super Bowl. Great win by the Saints, and guess who predicted they would win? Not ESPN, Inside The Shoe did. Congrats to them, and hope to see you here in the future for Live Blogs and comments on posts!

Free Willy Smith/Super Bowl Pick

Can Peyton lead his team to victory?

We don't cover a lot of NFL related topics here at Inside The Shoe unless it has to do with the Bengals. In this case, it has things to do with the Buckeyes, and of course, it's the Super Bowl.

To start off, let me just say DE Will Smith has had a great season, and a monstrous post-season. The former 2002 National Champion has led his team on defense, and has played as a role model and leader. He will play a key role in the Super Bowl, which the main topic seems to be getting to Peyton Manning before he destroys your secondary. Will Smith is the man for the job, and look for him to get some love by the announcers during the game. Corner Malcolm Jenkins has not been very succesful in the tackling category, but has started the majority of the games, and breaking up some passes here and there. We will see if he plays a role in the SB, and we wish them both luck. On the other side of the football field, we see a recovered(?) Anthoney Gonzalez, who might or might not see playing time. If he does play, it just adds to Peyton's firepower and will add a deep threat along with a hard runner.

That's all the Buckeyes in this game, and Inside The Shoe will give New Orleans it's first SB win ever 38-31. It's going to be a shoot-out, and a great game. Oh, and the Bengals are coming here next year! Mark it down.
