Inside The Shoe Ballot - Week 2
| Rank | Team | Delta |
|---|---|---|
Oklahoma Sooners - Landry Jones and the Sooners took care of business vs. Tulsa with no shocks, surprises, or upset chances, pushing them into the #1 spot. Up Next: BYE |
LSU Tigers - Even with Jarrett Lee in for Jordan Jefferson, the offense did take a blow, but the running game and the Tiger defense manhandled the Ducks on both sides of the line play. Up Next: Northwestern State |
Alabama Crimson Tide - The Crimson Tide came out rolling against the Golden Flashes and new head coach Darrell Hazell, as they cruised behind 3 TD's from Heisman candidate Trent Richardson. Up Next: #24 Penn State | --
Florida St. Seminoles - E.J. Manuel proved he is the correct QB to have the reins, as he threw for 252 yards and 2 TD's on their way to an easy 34-0 win. Up Next: Charleston Southern | --
Stanford Cardinal - Andrew Luck started his Heisman campaign off on the right foot as he and new head coach David Shaw ran over the San Jose State Spartans 57-3. Up Next: Duke | --
Boise St. Broncos - The Broncos once again proved they belong in the National Championship race with a convincing 35-21 victory in a virtual home game for the Bulldogs. Kellen Moore was impressive, going 28/34 and 3 TD's. Up Next: BYE |
Texas A&M Aggies - The Aggies shot down SMU's hopes of an upset very quickly with a 46-14 win, as the two tailback system is working out well so far, amassing for a combined total of 217 yards and 4 TD's. Up Next: BYE | --
Wisconsin Badgers - Russell Wilson is the real deal, and Montee Ball and James White are as good as advertised. Expect good things from the Badgers this season. Up Next: Oregon State | --
Oklahoma St. Cowboys - The always pass-happy offense of Oklahoma State once again took to the airs to take down Louisiana-Lafayette 61-34. The Cowboys are going to need to do better on defense, but if they manage to, they will be dangerous. Up Next: Arizona | --
Nebraska Cornhuskers - Taylor Martniez ran all over Chatanooga, and it showed in the stat book, as he now leads the Big Ten in rushing yardage. Nebraska has to find another weapon though, if they want to compete deep in the season. Up Next: Fresno State |
Oregon Ducks - Chip Kelly has to be frustrated with his team, because they have all the talent and speed on the perimeter in the world. Unfortunately for them, their offensive and defensive lines are much smaller, and not as quick as LSU's. Turnovers also killed any chance of overcoming the blunders by the lines. Up Next: Nevada |
South Carolina Gamecocks - After a surprising decision by Spurrier to start Conner Shaw, Stephen Garcia came to the rescue, and most likely earned back his starting spot, coming off the bench and leading the comeback against the ECU Pirates, 56-37. Up Next: Georgia | --
Ohio St. Buckeyes - While a 42-0 shutout was indeed nice to see, Ohio State still needs to work out some kinks on the offensive side of the ball, and special teams. 2 missed FG's (1 called for a penalty) can't happen against teams like Nebraska, where you need points where you can get them. Up Next: Toledo |
Virginia Tech Hokies - Running back David Wilson led the way for the Hokies in a 66-13 rout of the Appalachian State Mountaineers, and the defense looks strong. Up Next: East Carolina |
Arkansas Razorbacks - Kody Walker replaced Knile Davis (out for season) and Tyler Wilson replaced Ryan Mallett, as the Razorbacks cruised 51-7 against Missouri State. Up Next: New Mexico |
West Virginia Mountaineers - QB Geno Smith led the Mountaineers to a solid 34-13 win over Marshall, but like many teams, WVU needs another weapon, preferably at tailback as only 42 yards were gained. Up Next: Norfolk State |
Mississippi St. Bulldogs - The Bulldogs looked good in their opener easily disposing of Memphis 59-13, and the defense looks ready for some real opponents. They'll have their first SEC test against Auburn. Up Next: Auburn |
Michigan St. Spartans - While I wasn't overally impressed with the Spartans this weekend, they did end up winning 28-6. I have a problem with the difficulties on defense against Youngstown State, so it's something to keep an eye out for. Up Next: Florida Atlantic |
Missouri Tigers - The Tigers are moving down two spots, after a horrific showing against Miami (OH). Edging them out 17-6 is not going to fly against teams in the Big 12. Up Next: #22 Arizona State |
Florida Gators - Will Muschamp started off right in his first win as the Gators head coach, and with offensive coordinator Charlie Weis calling the shots, Florida was able to show some of their talent in a respectable 41-3 win over Florida Atlantic. Up Next: UAB |
Baylor Bears - The Bears not only upset the Horned Frogs. They popped their defense in the mouth hard. A 50-48 shootout win over TCU was enough to catapult Baylor in the Top 25, and QB Robert Griffin III into the Heisman race. Up Next: BYE | --
Arizona St. Sun Devils - Brock Osweiler was impressive in a 48-14 win over UC-Davis as he threw for 262 yards and 2 TD's on their way to victory. Next week's game will be a nice showing for who's fake and who's real in the race for a championship. Next Up: #19 Missouri |
Texas Longhorns - The Longhorns started slow, but finished strong in a 34-9 win over Rice. They still need to improve, but they should do much better than last season. Up Next: BYU |
Penn St. Nittany Lions - The Nittany Lions looked strong in their 41-7 win over Indiana State, while Silas Redd did his thing to lead Penn State with some momentum heading into the big match-up next week. Up Next: #3 Alabama | --
South Florida Bulls - While the Bulls may have only upset Notre Dame 23-20, it looked much dominant on the field, as the Irish were falling over themselves trying to stop South Florida and score themselves. Obviously, it didn't work. Up Next: Ball State | --
| Dropouts: Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Georgia Bulldogs, TCU Horned Frogs Receiving Votes: Iowa, Georgia, Houston, Hawaii, Michigan, BYU, Utah | ||
