Buckeyes know Bo Pelini. He was a thorn in our flesh in the 2007 title game as the LSU defensive coordinator. But if there was anyone in the CFB world that had any doubt about where the Nebraska program was heading, Bo dispelled them emphatically. After the rather questionable decision to let Solich go, the Huskers have a winner in Pelini.
Time will tell how much ascendancy we will see from the Cornhuskers. But if they reach BCS championship glory, many will recall that it began with NDamokung Suh. As went Suh, so went the Huskers. And he turned their season around in that rain soaked field against Missouri when their season was headed South in a hurry. And today was an exclamation mark on that gr8 career.
And that punctuation mark came against the hapless Arizona Wildcats. The statistics are grim so I will not delve into them. Suffice it to say that they mustered 109 total yards in 51 plays. Their QB Nick Foles had my sympathies. He was just pancaked tonight.
On offense, the Huskers looked like an improved bunch from those anemic performances we saw from them against the Hokies, Cyclones, Horns ... Nick Foles, the MVP of the game capped a fine day's work with a 74 yard TD reception. Kicker / punter Alex Henery had a whale of a day pinning the Wildcats deep throughout the night.
So Suh moves on and the remainder of the teams in CFB especially the Big 12 heave a sigh of relief. But if Bo Pelini has his way, he will have another Suh ready for next year. Good to see the Big 12 play some defense, real defense for a change. Not the pseudo hyped-up Texas style defense.
