Rebels beat the Pokes 21-7 in the Yawn Bowl Classic

Wait - what? This was the Cotton Bowl Classic? That same bowl game that produced National Champions once upon a time? The Bowl Game that was a showcase for great RBs like Bo Jackson? Well - if it was, the Rebels and the Cowboys did not get the memo.

With one team calling themselves the 'Cowboys' and another team calling themselves the 'Rebels' playing in Dallas Texas, you would have expected to see the excitement of a Clint Eastwood Wild West movie. And this game had all the excitement of an Oprah Winfrey show.

The Pokes turned the ball over 7 times and the Rebels obliged with 5 of their own. The refs did not want to be left out of the act and botched several calls including a key no-call for neutral zone infraction on the Rebels that led to ... you guessed it... a Pokes turnover. Turnovers themselves do not a poor game make. It was the nature of the turnovers. Casual QB - center exchanges, direct throws from QBs to opposing DBs with no WR in vicinity... yo name it ... every head-scratcher was to be seen. In a game so sloppy, scoring was hard to come by, the Pokes decided to run a DE as a fullback in for the score from the 1 foot line and missed. So what does coach Gundy do? Repeat the play again on 4th down. And what do you guess was the result?

The game, though not a Wild West adventure movie, did have a happy ending. Everyone was happy it was over!!

Can't wait for the Liberty Bowl to start.
