Spring Finals: Fullback

We all know by now that spring has come and gone, football wise that is, so we will be taking a look into all the positions, tell you how they did, and where they might be this fall. Today's topic is covering the fullback. As you can see in this picture, fullbacks are key to a running backs openings. They are called the lead blocker for a reason. When a quarterback hands off to a running back, the RB is going to be looking for a hole quick, and it should come right of the shoulder of the fullback. So with that, let's dive right in to the fullbacks that are currently attending The Ohio State University.

Depth Chart Prediction

  1. Zach Boren - He has worked his tail off this spring. In addition to earning a starting spot last year,  with shared time, Zach will be starting and making a name for himself again this year. He is a good inside runner, but we also know that he athletic, and can use that to his advantage.
  2. Adam Homan - Considering he hasn't made any big news, I think it's a safe bet for Boren to start. The question is, will Homan be able to back him up well enough? Blocking does get tiring, after all.
How They Did

He knows how to silence a crowd..

Zach Boren: The younger Boren has made Tressel and co. very happy this spring. They are impressed with his speed, but also with his ability to block and not be afraid to dive right into whatever mess is ahead. I've taken a liking to Zach, and he is coming along nicely. Most of all I like his effort, and I hope we can see him have some more carries this year, but it might be hard with all the running backs we have.

Adam Homan: The younger of the Homan brothers is doing good, but not good to the point of starting ahead of Zach. The coach's like the progression he has made during the spring this year, and they hope to continue to develop him as well. I think we could end up seeing some sort of a tag team when necessary in games, whether it be to block or running a route.

Overall Depth: A-

I am sad to say that college football is starting to lose it's need for fullbacks. With that being said, I think it's a great idea to keep using them as much as possible here. Don't get me wrong, it's not like FB's will ever be put out of the game, but they are being used less and less. Again, when I say that it means good things for us because of 2 pretty darn good fullbacks protecting the quarterback and blocking for the running back. We won't see them run much this year, but their effort is always one of the greatest on the team. I respect that, and hope they will do well, and be a key part of this team.
