Prediction Depth Chart
- Terrelle Pryor - He obviously has earned it.
- Kenny Guiton - With an impressive spring, the freshman raised some eyebrows around camp, and around the blog-o-sphere.
- Joe Bauserman - Although it will be a tough decision, Guiton just has that quarterback feel to him. Bauserman still looks like a pitcher, and that makes me nervous. He also doesn't seem to feel too comfortable in the pocket.
Terrelle Pryor: Terrelle just came off his surgery, and an impressive Rose Bowl performance. This may sound like it's getting old, but to be honest, it came at the right time, so we will keep saying it. He has jumped into his junior year as a Buckeye and has done very well in the spring. We didn't get to see too much of him in the Spring Game, most likely because of Tressel not wanting his star hurt early. This may sound a bit crazy, but it won't just be Terrelle carrying this team to victories. Of course, you have to expect him to because he's your starting quarterback, and that is what you expect from him. A lot of the load will be taken off if the backfield does what they need to do. That comes later though.
Will Gution succeed Pryor when he's gone?
Kenny Guiton: Let's say it again. Kenny Guiton had a very impressive spring performance leading the Gray over a favored Scarlet team. He also had two drives in that game that came late in the 4th quarter, and was cool under pressure. He also can use his feet, and is very dangerous with his arm (look around 0:50). Kenny Guiton has impressed everyone and myself included. If he doesn't earn the second spot under Pryor, I would be surprised. Although he's not quite game ready, he will get there with experience and time in games.
Joe Bauserman: Bauserman again has made me come away unimpressed. I don't like ragging on people, but he has got to learn to control the ball, and get his throws where they need to go. When I did a recap of the game, a reader said that he was throwing the ball out of bounds because of pressure. I think that's great, but when you do it every single play, your being too conservative. I think he has a chance for the second spot, but he's got to make up some ground from the Spring Game and raise some eyebrows around camp.
Overall Depth: B
I think this is a fair grade concerning the quarterbacks seeing as we have 1 starter in Terrelle. Guiton is green right now, but with a couple of games here and there where he plays in the 3rd or 4th quarter will do him a load of good. Bauserman has some experience, but like I said, I don't think he will be ready to take over the reins when Pryor's down (god forbid) or gone. I think for the season, this will be good, and I'm sure Bauserman and Guiton will battle it out for that second spot. It will also do them and Pryor good for a little fire under the bellys' to get it going early.
