Ohio State's Armageddon

Pryor under fire from Buckeye Nation right now
Ohio State fans have been blessed before this season. Sans Troy Smith in 2004 receiving money from a booster and had to sit out the Alamo Bowl and the first game of the season the next year, Tressel's players have been very well behaved, including almost no suspensions. The NCAA has done no investigations or anything like that to any of Tressel's team as fans watch USC, Alabama, etc. get knocked out by the investigations, and Buckeye fans could relax because they knew Tressel would never allow such a thing.

Now only 12 days from kickoff in the Sugar Bowl against Arkansas, Ohio State has met it's match. It's not on the football field. Terrelle Pryor, Daniel "Boom" Herron, DeVier Posey, Michael Adams, and Solomon Thomas are now all suspended for the first five games in the 2011-2012 season. All of these key cogs in the Buckeye team are eligible for the Sugar Bowl, but it's possible they might sit out still. It depends on what Gene Smith and Jim Tressel want to do.

The key players have some money to pay, as well:

  • Mike Adams must repay $1,000 for selling his 2008 Big Ten championship ring
  • Boom Herron must repay $1,150 for selling his football jersey, pants and shoes for $1,000 and receiving discounted services for $150.
  • DeVier Posey must repay $1,250 for selling his 2008 Big Ten championship ring for $1,200 and receiving discounted services worth $50.
  • Terrelle Pryor must repay $2,500 for selling his 2008 Big Ten championship ring, a 2009 Fiesta Bowl sportsmanship award and his 2008 Gold Pants.

You would really give these up?
The Gold Pants are insane. Makes me absolutely furious for a kid that wanted to be a legend at Ohio State, he sure has ruined it here. Even if he plays well in the bowl game, are people going to care? Next year the storyline will be that Braxton Miller has to step up the first five games. I think it's also possible if he plays out of his mind, that he can hold the starting position

Pryor, Herron and Posey are all eligible for the NFL draft in 2011. Whether they leave now is a mystery, but we will find out in the next month or so I'm sure. I think that Herron and Posey's chances are high. Ohio State has been investigating allegations that several football players traded autographs for tattoos.
Rumors first surfaced last Saturday. Athletic department officials, including Smith and Ohio State's compliance director had refrained from addressing the allegations.
On Twitter on Wednesday night, Pryor posted, "I paid for my tattoos. GoBucks". Since then, Pryor has removed the tweet, and not been on Twitter since.
Gene Smith is trying to appeal to the NCAA about this, calling it too "severe" of a punishment, so it's remain to be seen if anything can/will change there. We'll keep you updated. Buckeyes all over Twitter seem just as shocked about the announcements that fans are
