It is easy to overlook them, but they are there. They are in your classes, your dorms, your apartment buildings. Late at night, on the Big Ten Network you may see them. These are the men and women - the athletes - of the “Non-Revenue” sports.
We all cheer for the football team and scream for the basketball team, but what do we know about the other champions that The Ohio State University has to offer? Take a look at the Men’s Swimming and Diving team. Over the last two years, they have finished in the top 3 in the Big Ten Championship Meet, including the 2010 Conference Championship and two top eleven NCAA finishes. Next, there are Buckeye Fencing teams. They always compete at the highest level, and this year was no exception, as they garnered a 5th place NCAA finish. How about Men’s Volleyball? The Midwest may not be known as a volleyball haven, but don’t tell that to this powerhouse Buckeye squad. They are 3 time defending conference champions, multiple time final four participants, and are currently ranked in the top 10 nationally.

Good evening, everybody. My name is Danny Tarter, and as Ian mentioned in the Sports Mash Up on Sunday, I am the new Buckeyes basketball writer for Inside The Shoe.
Much like the other writers on the blog, I am here because I have an (almost) unhealthy obsession with Ohio State. I was born and spent my entire childhood just outside of Cleveland, Ohio, and also am a die hard Indians and Cavs fan. I just graduated from Ohio State in June, 2010, and am still living/working in the Columbus area. I played a little football in high school (emphasis on "a little") but basketball was the first sport I fell in love with.
While it is almost always overshadowed by football, Ohio State basketball really does have a rich tradition of its own, and is currently in the midst of a very successful decade. I hope to adequately cover Ohio State basketball and the issues that affect the team If there is any specific topic anyone wants to have researched, send me an email or just leave a comment. Cavs: The Cavs just finished their summer league play, finishing with a record of 3-2. The "star" player during the league was with no doubt Pooh Jeter. He averaged 14.8 points per game and finished fourth in the Summer League in assists per game, and has agreed to a deal with the SacramentoKings. This is obviously not good news. Reds: After coming off a disappointing 2-2 series tie with the Washington Nationals, the Reds have regained the NL Central lead with 2 wins over the Houston Astros, as they took the series. Looking for the 3 game sweep, and trying to distance themselves from the Cards, they play again today at 2:05. Mike Leake, 7-1, will look to continue his dominance, as the Reds, and their fans start to get excited about this team. For everything Reds, visit Red Reporter.
Bengals: The Bengals could still sign Terrell Owens, but reports are saying that it all depends on Antonio Bryant's knee. Cedric Benson had a "productive" talk with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell after he was charged for assault. For everything on the Bengals, visit Cincy Jungle.
Buckeye Football: Terrelle Pryor says that his knee will never be 100% again, but it's as close as possible right now, and he is excited to prove what he can do on the football field this season. You know where to go for all your Buckeye news :).

Things are starting to to get busier around here as football season is only a mere 6-7 weeks away. Alright, that sounds a bit longer when you say it, but it's closer than a month ago! ITS is busy with some cool stuff, and looking for some new members as well, to keep you readers infatuated with us.

According to this report, Brian Shaw is the next Cavalier coach, with or without Lebron James. I've never been a huge fan of this, but I would rather have Byron Scott coaching the Cavs. Also, Scott's agent sent a congratulatory email to Shaw that was pretty lengthy. Nothing is official, but just about. I guess we will see if Lebron stays with this choice of coaching. For those of you who want info on Brian, he was the assistant coach to Phil Jackson for awhile and is his "most trusted" assistant.
The Cincinnati Reds are still doing well, leading the NL Central along with a win over the defending NL Champions, the Phillies, 7-3 last night. St. Louis won as well, so our lead is still a half game. Tonight, Mike Leake, the outstanding rookie, pitches against Joe Blanton.
Chris Henry died with brain damage. Multiple hits to the head, which happens many times in the NFL, can lead to damage such as that.

The Spring Finals series is going pretty well, and I enjoy doing it. We all know that we reached the offense finals, with the offensive line capping it off, so now we move to the defense. This is a schedule that will be pretty close to the actual one.

Wednesday: Nothing, (will be busy all day.) This is why I need a writer!

It was only a matter of time. All the seasons I've been watching Lebron James, I always wondered just like any other Cavs fan I'm sure, how he did such an amazing job of driving and scoring and being physical, without getting injured. Sure, he's had his injuries, but only for a day or two. Now we have this elbow from last night that apparently has been bothering him since Game 2 of the Bulls series. Of course, the elbow says it's fine, so I guess we should believe it. So the double-edged sword here is obviously the series being won, but bad side: LBJ's elbow. He said after the game it worries him, but we will see what happens.
Ben Koyack commits to Notre Dame. Obviously didn't want the competition here.
If you haven't seen what Michigan has done/said lately, go here. I hope they don't seriously think that will work. Obviously if your making your own new defense, and no one else will be using it, then it's not very good. I swear, they get dumber and dumber every year. Oh, and worse at all sports.

The 2010 Spring Game came and went, and most people were most excited to see the upbringing of freshman Kenny Guiton. He had a great day, and most fans weren't worried about Terrelle Pryor, the running backs, the defensive line, or the offensive line. No, the one thing they were wondering once the game was over, was if Guiton was going to be OK. I took this as a good sign, and it also could mean were going to be really good, and have depth at every position. I like this, and I'll take it. The hit he took usually ends up with knee surgery, or a career ending injury. He walked off his own power, and then was able to walk up and down the sidelines, which is good. So now the countdown starts until the Marshall game. Summer ball will start up here, and we will keep you up to date.
The Cavaliers won their 3rd game, at Chicago giving them a 3-1 series lead. Lebron posted a triple double yesterday, and seems to get better every game.
The Reds won 5-4 to avoid being swept by the San Diego Padres as Homer Bailey pitched pretty well.

The next big thing tonight is Game 3 of the NBA playoffs on TNT. The Cavs and Lebron face Noah and the Bulls on what's sure to be a good game. If you missed the first two games, the only real thing you missed was a sick slam in Game 2. Lebron is going to be looking for the sweep, and it starts here. He is getting payback for all the clevelanders around the world, because MJ had to hit that incredible shot over Ehlo. Plus, the Bulls dominated the Cavs back then whenever they had the chance.

A story has broken out about the Big Ten speeding up the process of looking for a 12th (or more) member(s). This is very intriguing in the fact that just a couple of months ago, we heard Jim Delany say that the process would most likely take up to 12-18 months. Some other known facts are that if this was to happen before the meetings of the BCS, Delany would contact the Big East commish, letting him know they would be looking at Rutgers, Pitt, and Syracuse. That would allow the Big Ten more than a month to negotiate with schools before conference presidents and chancellors meet in Chicago during the first weekend in June. Then there was this little nugget of glory.
"I don't think 16 is scaring anyone off, as long as you can find (five) that are a good enough fit," said one source who has been consulted during the exploratory phase. "They're looking long-term, across the horizon. What gives them the best shot at keeping value at a high level?"
This may surprise you, but I am actually against having so many teams in the conference. Yes, it would probably be more exciting as a whole, but it seems a bit too much to me. I think adding 1 or 3 schools at most would be alright, but 16 is a couple too many. Here is my wish list for the Big Ten for teams to be added
1. Texas
2. Notre Dame
3. Nebraska
4. Cincinnati (just so we can shut the fans up every year)

By joining the Big Ten, Notre Dame could increase its annual television revenue from roughly $15 million to $22 million, get a national TV platform (the Big Ten Network) for its top-notch Olympic sports and decrease travel costs for its teams.
Sounds like a good deal to me. I know they have the contract with NBC, but they would also get more respect as a whole, and the whole shebang! I really don't understand why they have held out so long. It's just sad to think we could have had Notre Dame added a long time ago..and they just didn't want to. Oh well.

First thing was that the defense won in a blowout so big, it made history. The largest margin of winning came by 20 points. The score this year was 78-24 defense. That was mainly due to the offense having some struggles such as Terrelle Pryor having trouble finding consistent rhythm. Jaamal Berry proved he's a threat in the mix for that 3rd slot behind Zoom and Boom, when he made defenders look silly. He is getting more and more playing time due to injuries, such as Saine, Hall and Hyde. Berry himself seemed shaken up a bit at the end of the game, but it didn't look too bad. On the receiving plays, Posey and Sanzenbacher are looking like the core to beat this fall, and defense's are going to have trouble keeping up with them.
On the defensive side of things, John Simon is wreaking havoc against the offensive line and he is looking to make his mark this season. The defense also provided the only touchdown of the day, which came on a Pryor fumble. Devon Torrence is blitzing some, and like in the USC game, got a sack. I would love to see more of these plays, because catching the offense off-guard can really upset the QB (aka Miami).

It's time for the NBA playoffs. Lebron James looks to win his first championship in his 7th year. Today, they start the journey against the Chicago Bulls. Revenge for the Craig Ehlo play, and then we move on to the Miami/Boston game, which is sure to be good. I want to wish the Cavs luck today, and hope for the best.
In Buckeye news, the jersey scrimmage is going to be taking place today, but it is closed to the media. We will try and get as much information as possible.

While we are waiting for Ohio State news to report for you guys, let's give you a break down of what's happening around the Buckeye sphere.
First, the Pittsburgh Steelers traded Santonio Holmes for a 5th round pick. Let me say that again, a fifth round pick. I know this is fairly old news by now, but come on! I know he had a mediocre year last year, but he still won you the Super Bowl just 2 years ago. I would think he deserves better than that. Not only did he get traded, he got traded to the New York Jets. Normally, I wouldn't care much about that, but this is a team that is getting more dangerous by the second. As for the Bengals, they are going to have a tough time competing with them next year, and I think the rest of the NFL might to.
Your getting rid of this???
Evan Turner is going to be a Harlem Globetrotter tonight. He is testing his skills, and having a little bit of fun, while he waits for the NBA draft. It will be cool to see him at the Value City Arena making flashy moves, and of course, winning. (Do the Globetrotters ever lose?) I think it's a good thing for him, as it will keep him working hard to get that first pick. I don't know where he will end up, but my guess is the Timberwolves, just because he will be right behind Wall in the draft, although I hate to say it. Turner is the best overall player this year, and there is no doubt about it.
Finally, the Reds are doing just fine, winning in extra innings last night to the Florida Marlins, 6-5. They stand ranked at 18th in the MLB, which isn't too bad. They have won 3 straight now, though.

I figured I would bump this back to Saturday seeing as Friday had a lot to do with spring practice opening back up, so here it is. I chose to put a Tiger Woods POW because he made his comeback at the Master's this week. Now, understand, I'm not a big fan of golf, but I do like Tiger, and he's an important sports figure, scandal or not. So that is why your looking at him. The Buckeye's spring practice was open to the media again yesterday, and we learned quite a bit from it. This time around, some players were back, but still no word on Duron Carter. He continues to be out of practice and in the dog house. Something that really showed the coaches wanting Tyler Moeller to get better came on a play where he was doing great, and showing he still had great reflexes as he picked off a pass and was getting set to run it all the way back, when the quick whistle from Tressel blew. I don't think this was the wrong thing to do, but I would have liked to seen him run a little bit. Moeller will still be out of full drills until fall because of the recent head injury he experienced in Florida last summer.
On a recruiting standpoint, the practice was a good one as Braxton Miller, the sensational quarterback from Huber Heights, was on hand to witness the Scarlet and Gray practice. Miller is on the short list of QB's being recruited by the "big" schools such as Florida, Alabama, USC, Michigan, and Notre Dame.
For the offensive line, Mike Adams is playing more like he was meant to when he first came to Ohio State, by playing fiercely on the field. He frustrated Cameron Heyward, which is pretty hard to do, seeing as he is our best defensive linemen as of right now. Justin Boren is raising eyebrows, as he should, being the senior and participating in this years "Hoot and Holler" which has a defensive player and offensive player go head to head and whoever pushes who back, wins. John Simon was his opponent, and he is supposed to be a heck of a player. Obviously, it's starting to become true as they both ended up making a stalemate of it, and there was no clear cut winner.

Chimdi Chekwa was reported injured in one of our spring notes, and he is still nursing the injury, and Donnie Everge was with the first team yesterday, making some noise and having huge plays, which included a pick 6 on Terrelle Pryor.
The running back competition is starting to heat up more and more. While Brandon Saine is nursing a hamstring injury, Jermil Martin is fighting a bout of asthma, and Carlos Hyde spent most of the day stretching, but his injury was undisclosed, Jordan Hall and Jamaal Berry got a lot of the reps yesterday. Sadly, Berry spent a lot of time with the #2 squad. If he impresses though, we could have a real good time this year with our backs. Boom Herron was obviously taking the #1 squad, in place of Saine, and had a good time at the Hoot and Holler as well, fighting Brian Rolle in the battle, and it was very close, and the coaches still haven't decided who has won.
Finally, Drew Basil, a freshman is trying to take over the starting kicking spot, as he has a rumored monster leg, and he will battle Devin Barclay for the job. Yesterday, the 2nd team went out, and Basil nailed a 52 yard field goal. Sounds to me he's got a Mike Nugent leg on him. Barclay continue to work with the 1 team for now, but he's got to be feeling the pressure.
One last thing. Evan Turner appeared on Jimmy Kimmel last night, and got called the Villian. It was pretty funny, so here you go.

So we WOULD be playing Michigan State today, but Tennessee got some good calls. So, if anything, cheer for MSU today. We really don't want UT winning it all, do we? Plus, MSU is the last Big Ten team left, so we've GOT to root for them. I don't think they'll win though, UT is too good for them. Let's all hope for the upset. Many of you may think that it would be a good sign for UT to win because that would mean we lost to THE championship team. Actually, you would be wrong, because that means if we would have beaten them, we might have been champions our self. So, the season is over..and football season is still 27 days away. So now, Buckeye fans have to turn to...ahem, nothing.
This is the worst part through the year, except maybe after the spring game. We'll keep you up to date on the happenings with the Buckeyes. Still expect all the POW's and all that. As far as the GPC goes, were about to crown our monthly winner. Of course, you don't win anything, except you get your name on the sidebar, with a picture of a trophy. If you win the most months, you get the free item from the ITS Shop at the end of the year.
